My drivers are about to pull there hair out dealing with these sticking DDG's. Does anybody know what to do to make them unload better, other than waiting for cooler, less humid weather?

We haul DDG's in dumps and it works great

I've tried using spray wax and I don't believe it actually helped. For one thing, carnuba wax basically breaks down at something like 88 degrees, so if you're hauling in the summer it's not really doing anything for you. About the only thing I've ever found to be at all effective is just running several loads of corn through the trailer. One thing a guy could try I suppose would be silicone spray. That stuff seems to last forever on whatever surface its applied!

Thanks for the tip, one of my guys put it in his hoppers this morning and he is going to load a load of DDG'S Monday , we will see how it works.

I have heard that a spray wax works good. Just spray the inside of hopper with the wax and let it dry then load it up.

I have also heard that spray Teflon like they use on fooze ball tables works well also but I have not tried it. I would think the wax idea should work well also as ddgs have always unloaded well for me right after a load of soybeans.

Try and unload in the cool of the morning and it generally drops right out.

That's kin of funny because we rarely haul DDGs for less than $3/mile. Sure we have days when it doesn't come off so well but it's PART OF THE JOB! I'm not a huge fan of the negative attitude

yes first of all your problably hauling it way to cheap because ddgs have about the lowest rate there is out there so i suggest charging more to haul that misserable crap will help that problem rite there

its way to hard on trailers to have your drivers beating the heck out of them for that kind of money just decreasing the value of your equipment

try brushing graphite "slip plate paint" inside the hoppers. Ihave found this stuff to work well when hauling wet corn over 20% moisture. Its can be purchased at Fleet farm or tractor supply stores.

i also use the stuff on the gear openers of my hoppers

This country is full of disease because: 1. nasty people do not wash their hands after using the restroom. 2. People fail to clean up their equipment properly between loads. 3. Many more reasons then I can list here. But the biggy is the nasty people not washing their hands.

Steve is is a subscription not a prescription. A prescription is what the doctor gives you when you are sick from a disease that you contacted from nasty people that don't wash their hands. LOL. I as well as others are happy that you sold your truck and trailer and are not out here running with the real truckers. You need to stay on the farm where you belong and draw your welfare subsidy from the government.

Walking floor trailers rock DDG. Right trailer for the load. Art Pfluger

Well unfortunately, the question was about how to get DDGs out of a HOPPER. This answer is 100% useless. Besides the fact that I couldn't service the majority of my customers with a walking floor, you're also talking about a trailer that's about triple the price of a hopper and can haul about 2/3 the weight. Unless you're strictly hauling feed commodities, that walking floor is not worth the price. I mainly haul grain and fertilizer. I only haul DDGs every so often because there's an assload of it moving right now and it helps supplement my income some when it's a little slow.

Hey Justin You are right about this forum getting off the subject and for my part I apologize. Hoppers are the lightest simplest trailers to use for many things but in my experience they work best for grain but everyone wants to haul other products with them and have to improvise how to get it out, been there, alfalfa meal and hominey in a 9 hole tempte are the worst that I remember. Have hauled hominey lately in a end dump, sure was nice to see it just slide right out. People that have spent money on specialised trailers to do a job have always have been resentful of hopper bottoms trying to cut the rates. Just the way it is. But everyone, including me, could be more polite and stick to the subject. Thanks

We have our drivers washout the trailer if they have been hauling DDG or haul corn between loads. We pay them $50-$75 to do this depending how close the washout is. Seems to work. The comment about loading when they are cool is right on..load in the morning if possible and it goes smoother.Alittle bit...nothing in life is perfect. This is a good board. It makes me a little bit of money and helps facilitate a few new contacts.

I don't know why you wouldn't be able to haul grain and fertilizer on a walking floor I've done it for 15 years. If you need to unload in a pit you just put a grain shoot on the back. You're more versatile then as well. You can haul pallets if need be.

Mount a vibrator on your hoppers and use a rubber mallet OR buy a belt trailer.

Our drivers say that they roll back tarp the last hour before delivery and it helps dry it out.

One driver told me to get a few can s of cooking spray and spray around the bottom of the hoppers when hauling ddg. He said his boss buys it by the case.

I haul ddg alot both from rail car and from the plant....seems like rail car comes out eaiser but that is because risidual moisture and hear are gone. I have a air hose and long wand that helps with them really sticky loads having larger doors helps some hoppers have small doors and nothing but grain wants to come out. Some times you can shock the load after you get a little room in the hopper by moving forward and backward hitting the breaks. This is one of my least favorite commodites to haul right up there with meat and bone meal but there are times I haul it alot.

I think the air hose and wand is the best solution to keep from damaging trailers due to beating on the slopes. (Even though they put in nice large letters. "Do not Beat"). It may require carrying a lightweight extension ladder in your bows, or across your landing legs, but then you can clean almost anything out of your trailer from the top or poke it up from the bottom to give it a couple "Fluffs"

I hang a 3/4" rope from a bow and pinch it in the door of each hopper before I load. If the product sticks, I can pull it up from the top and create a "starter hole".
