What’s with all the new “brokers?

I’m in eastern PA, And the rise of new brokers posting on here with “new member” status is pretty alarming. Seems the only ones posting on here are these guys who just signed up a few months ago. With zero ratings. Not to mention they never replay to emails, messages and phone calls. Hell half of them you can’t even find on FMCSA’s website. What’s the deal? Really starting to think this “load board” is completely useless for us in PA and surrounding states. Not sure if y’all down south or out west have better luck. But for me. I don’t think I’ll be renewing.

Sounds about right. Not only that but I noticed rates are down.

I think they bought into the truck driver shortage hype. They have driven the seasoned people out of business by undercutting the people that knew what they were doing. At least that's my experience in the Texas area. Pneumatic loads that were paying 7 to 10 dollars per mile are now being offered for 3 and 4 dollars per mile. The only thing that gets posted on here for my area now is garbage. I asked what was being done to improve the situation a few weeks ago and couldn't get a straight answer. Which means nothing.

Out west we have a good number of new brokers, but they seem to be weaning themselves out with the current poor rates. We are clutching our regular customers tightly, and patiently waiting for the ship to right itself. The emergence of dispatchers has been the main problem in our area. We get called 5-10 times a day about companies wanting us to get them loads. I don't believe in more regulation ever being the answer, but I feel for the people being duped by these cloak & dagger brokers with no authority to do business.

Here's what happened. During Covid, Tanker rates went high. Lot's of Owner Ops entered the market. Brokers in general heard about it and two things happened.

Managers/Directors that already brokered bulk went and entered the market on their own.

Newbies entered the market because they thought they could make more money w/ less competition than General Freight.

Market flipped and voila. Many brokers aren't good or necessarily proactive, therefore you get the poor response rate.
